Colonial Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America, Inc.
Sports and Recreation
Colonial PVA realizes that sports and recreation is a valuable rehabilitative tool which is effective in rebuilding self-esteem and self-confidence as well as promoting the health and welfare of its participants.
The chapter is a direct or supporting sponsor of local and national competitions of most major wheelchair sports in the United States, including basketball, bowling, track and field, tennis, fishing, snow skiing, and trap shooting. Colonial PVA also annually participates in the PVA National Trapshoot Circuit, an event where shooters with disabilities and able-bodied shooters compete as equals in the recreational sport of trapshooting.
Colonial PVA maintains a sit-ski at Ski Roundtop in Lewisberry, Pennsylvania for use by members and others with mobility impairments. The Chapter maintains 25 deer and duck hunting blinds. We were instrumental in constructing the blinds which are used and maintained by members and volunteers. The HuntMaster, a portable, accessible, hydraulic deer stand is also available for use by members and other wheelchair hunters. Also available for use are the Illusion Trailer, a blind used for deer hunting and the Illusion Portable Duck Blind, used for waterfowl hunting.
Our sports program has many dimensions. We provide information, sponsor training sessions, and support the concept of sports as a rehabilitational tool by providing our membership and the disabled population many opportunities to compete and participate in sports and recreational events on a regular basis.
